We had to send our laptop back to factory settings, so we followed the directions on Apple's website for how to successfully back up your iTunes library on an external hard drive and load it on a new computer.
"Successfully" is the operative word here, and "successful" the move was NOT. iTunes, how I loathe thee.
"It just works," says Apple's slogan. Yeah. It just works, if you don't want to ever listen to your music again.
